Advent 2

  • Got kind of a late start this morning, so I chose the better post for today.  Storms predicted for this afternoon/evening, so will be going to in and out, right after this study is done.

    Advent  2:

    Isaiah 7:10-14:    Then the Lord spoke again to Ahaz, saying, “Ask a sign for yourself from the Lord your God; make it deep as Sheol or high as heaven.” But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, nor will I test the Lord!” Read more.

    Jeremiah 33:14-16:   ‘Behold, days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will fulfill the good word which I have spoken concerning the house of Israel and the house of Judah. In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch of David to spring forth; and He shall execute justice and righteousness on the earth. In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will dwell in safety; and this is the name by which she will be called: the Lord is our righteousness.’

    Romans 15:4-13:    For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus, so that with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Matthew 3:1-12:    Now in those days John the Baptist *came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” For this is the one referred to by Isaiah the prophet when he said,

    ‘Make ready the way of the Lord,
    Make His paths straight!’”

    Luke 2:8-20:    In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; Read more.

    Luke 2:13-14:    And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest,
    And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”

    Romans 13:11-14:    Do this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed. The night is almost gone, and the day is near. Therefore let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy. Read more.

    Isaiah 40:1-11:    “Comfort, O comfort My people,” says your God.
    “Speak kindly to Jerusalem;
    And call out to her, that her warfare has ended,
    That her iniquity has been removed,
    That she has received of the Lord’s hand
    Double for all her sins.”
    A voice is calling,
    “Clear the way for the Lord in the wilderness;
    Make smooth in the desert a highway for our God.
