From the Desk of Steve Shultz:

Steve ShultzOur prayer life is always vitally important and keeps us in-tune with what's on God's heart for the times we are living in.

In our friend John Belt's recent article, you'll find out just how to keep prayer burning in your own heart. Sometimes, we may ask: Are my prayers important and are they really making a difference?

The answer is a resounding YES. Scripture tells us to "pray without ceasing..." so cease we do NOT do!

I want you to read this short but powerful word from John as he tells you how to tend to the fire of prayer. (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

"How to Keep Prayer Burning in Your Heart"

John Belt, Oklahoma City, OK

It is so important to keep prayer burning in your heart. Prayer is how we abide in Christ, connect with God and see His Kingdom come and will done in the earth as it is in Heaven. It takes an excellent spirit to keep that fire burning on the inside.

Tending the Fire

Prayer should never die in your heart. It is something that we should always keep burning. That is not always the easiest thing to do. It takes extra sensitivity with a willingness to pay the price to keep that fire burning inside. But you can keep it alive at all times.

"...The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." (James 5:16)

The prayers of the saints and worship are being offered continually before the throne of God, and our hearts can be connected in prayer to that same reality. In this, we experience His pleasure as we are participating in Heaven's activity.

"Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints." (Revelation 5:8)

It is a constant connection that we have available to us in the Lord. Whatever adjustments we need to make to access a wholehearted life of prayer is worth it. Sometimes it is changing some habits and patterns, fasting; adding something different to change the course of the typical flow to create a more "God-ward" positioning of our hearts. Getting Involved with God

When we give of ourselves in prayer and worship we become centrally involved in what God is doing in the earth, even in people's lives. In getting tuned to His frequency, we become aware of what God has planned on a more intimate level. Not only that, He gives us invitations to participate with Him on a different level.

"For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him..." (2 Chronicles 16:9)

As our pursuit in the Lord intensifies we become door openers for others. In turn, God opens doors for us as we participate with Him. God is good and gives us motivators and incentives to seek His face.

"So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you." (Luke 11:9)

Busyness vs Seeking God

"Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near." (Isaiah 55:6)

Sometimes we need to ask ourselves, "Am I really seeking the Lord, or am I just busy doing a bunch of stuff?" Busyness is a counterfeit for true productivity in the Spirit. We can find our identity in being busy or find it through spending time with God. Some never experience God or hear from Him because they never slow down enough to seek His face.

"And Jesus answered and said to her, 'Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.'" (Luke 10:41-42)

Our identity comes from knowing Him. We discover our identity through seeking God and spending time with Him. Mary understood the value of slowing down and listening to the Lord. How much more do we need to understand the importance of putting Him first? (Photo via Pxfuel)

Training Your Spiritual Senses

One of the things that I have found to be so helpful in seeking God is the ability to create an atmosphere through worshipful instrumental music. All I have to do is turn it on and it gives me a tapestry that is blank every time. It's a great way to receive revelation and wisdom from the Lord. Just as our muscles have memory, so do our spiritual muscles. We can train our spiritual senses to respond to anointed music where prayer becomes an automatic response.

As you learn to engage with God with a worshipful backdrop, your responses become automatic when you turn it on – whether it be a Bible study, prayer, worship or just soaking in the presence of God. These are ways we can sow into the Spirit.

"For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life." (Galatians 6:8)

Keep the fire burning in your heart to seek the Lord! Make prayer a priority and realize that you have the privilege of participating in seeing God's Kingdom come and will be on the earth. As you do, you will receive the blessing of the Lord in ways that you could never have imagined!
