Demontae Edmonds: "An Encounter: The Humility of God"

Demontae Edmonds

From the Desk of Steve Shultz:

This may sound like a novel concept, but have you ever thought of God, the Judge of all the earth, as your God who is filled WITH HUMILITY?

Wow, what a concept. How can this be?

Demontae Edmonds says this:

I inquired of the Lord asking, "Why this encounter?" Then, the revelation was given to me. In a moment, I received a greater measure of understanding of why "...God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble" (1 Peter 5:5). This encounter allowed me to see more of the humility of God Himself."

God actually wants you to learn and to see that HE is humble because when you do, you'll see Him as approachable; and if you see Him as approachable, then you will quickly come to Him for a real, true and lasting FRIENDSHIP. (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

The Encounter – God in Rewind

While waiting upon the Lord in prayer, the Holy Spirit gave me an unique encounter with Father God. During my time with God, I was not seeking Him for anything specific, other than to be in His presence. In a few short seconds, the Holy Spirit gave me a vision of Father God in a panoramic view, from present to past-times. It was as if I was seeing God in rewind. My spirit quickly went from observing Him watching over mankind, then to a scene where the earth was formed but uninhabited. It was as if the Lord was allowing me to follow Him in a flash of time back through the annals of history.

Many times, when one has a supernatural encounter with God, the words and terms one finds are insufficient and inadequate to describe the experience. I believe this is one of the reasons that the saints of old often spoke in symbolic terms or were told to seal up their words for the appointed time.

The Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:4 explains how he (or a man he knew) was "...caught up into Paradise, and heard unspeakable words..." The things that were seen and heard were challenging to put into human language.

He Is Omnipresent

As I moved in time with the Holy Spirit I was beholding the greatness of God throughout creation, present and past. I saw God at the beginning of our galaxy looking over it. When I say I saw Him, I don't mean that I saw Him in a personal way, as you would see someone's face, but rather, I saw the form of God that covered the entire universe (during this point in the vision). God has a localized personage and presence, but I saw the mystery of God's omnipresence within this encounter.

Several Scriptures come to mind:

Ephesians 1:23, "...Him that filleth all and all."

Jeremiah 23:24, "...Do not I fill Heaven and Earth? saith the Lord."

Humans often understand everything as cause and effect. Everything in our sensory world has a beginning and a scientific explanation (that God established). God Himself transcends ALL known laws, principles, and physics because He created all things, including time, space, and matter. God fills all of these things with His life-giving force but also exists outside of the limitations of the very scientific laws He has created.

As the Holy Spirit took me further into time, I felt as if I was beginning to move into the history of God Himself. The experience of knowing God at this measure became so overwhelming it felt as if my mind was overwhelmed and I could no longer continue seeing anymore of what God was revealing to Me about Himself. I quickly snapped myself out of the encounter and began to worship God.

Being Undone

I felt a challenge of sorts from the Holy Spirit to pray and ask God to reveal to me His beginning. Now I understand that God has no beginning, of course, but rather a history of God Himself.

Hebrews 7:3 says that Melchizedek was "Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God..." If Melchizedek is without beginning or end, one can be certain that Father God Himself has no beginning and no other God has created Him (Isaiah 45:5). (Photo via Unsplash)

Let's examine this powerful truth: God simply exists and always has existed. I always have known this with my finite mind but in this encounter, the Holy Spirit was revealing to me a measure of this mystery, and it was too much for my mind to handle!

After the encounter, I began to worship and pray unto God the Father. I felt for a moment there might be an invitation for me to ask God about how He has always existed. I felt the fear of the Lord and drew back from asking God for any further revelation on this matter. It seemed as if my spirit-man knew that I did not possess the capacity of comprehending the greatness and awesomeness of God in this matter. I was fearful that if I asked God for more insight into this revelation He would respond, and I would be undone by the weight of the revelation.

The prophet and diplomat Daniel received such a powerful revelation and encounter from God that he was undone for several days. "And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days. And I Daniel fainted, and was sick certain days; afterward I rose up, and did the king's business; and I was astonished at the vision..." (Daniel 8:26-27).

I inquired of the Lord asking, "Why this encounter?" Then, the revelation was given to me. In a moment, I received a greater measure of understanding of why "...God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble" (1 Peter 5:5). This encounter allowed me to see more of the humility of God Himself. Some thoughts on God's greatness.

1. He is omnipresent (everywhere at once).

2. He is omniscient (knows all).

3. He created mankind and all of man's bodily systems.

4. He hung the sun and moon in perfect position and orbit.

5. He created all laws of physics, mathematics, and science.

6. He exits in and out of time.

7. He knows each star by name (Psalm 147:4).
(Scientists say there are one hundred billion stars in the Milky Way Galaxy and one billion trillion in the
universe!)

8. He existed before everything in creation.

9. He is eternal (no beginning, no end).

10. He controls an army of angels that numbers in the hundreds of millions (Revelation 5:11).

These are just a FEW of the grandiose facts about God. In spite of all of God's awesomeness and greatness He has decided to operate in great humility. God's humility is so great that:

1. He assigns angels to watch over us (Matthew 18:10).

2. He numbers the hairs on our heads (Luke 12:7).

3. He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7).

4. He sent His only begotten Son to die as a sacrifice for our sins (John 3:16). (Photo via Pexels)

But most of all, our great Creator God demonstrates humility to such a degree that He has decided to call man – whose life is but a "vapor" (James 4:14) – servant, son/daughter, brother, and friend. This is why God resists the proud, because pride is contradictory to His own divine nature. This is why satan was kicked out of Heaven, for rebellion and pride in his heart (Isaiah 14:13). God gives grace to the humble because humility is interwoven into His own likeness.

In Spite of His Greatness He Calls Us...

Servants

"...[G]rant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your Word..." (Acts 4:29)

Sons

"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." (Romans 8:14)

Brothers

"...He is not ashamed to call them brethren." (Hebrews 2:11)

Friends

"...I have called you friends..." (John 15:15)

In prayer, I wept under the power of this revelation that deepened my understanding of the goodness of God and privilege to serve Him.

The Prayer of Moses

"Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You..." (Exodus 33:13)

Father God, I pray the same prayer that Moses, Your servant, prayed. Cause Me to know You in a greater way. I thank You for Your great love and mercy. Please work in me a greater degree of humility and uproot pride. Father, You promised in Your Word that You would give grace to the humble. I ask that the divine graces of Heaven be poured out and upon my life as I submit to Your will for my life and humble myself to follow Your perfect guidance. In Jesus' name I pray, amen.
