A Healing Herb: Need to Control

  • Many years ago we had just moved. We had two horses. We rented stalls for them at the fairgrounds. There were inside stalls and stalls with outside access. I thought that the inside would be better, so, when there was an opening, we moved our horses inside. I pretty much forced the issue. I didn't even wait for permission from the man that ran the stables. When I told him what we had done, he gave us permission, but made the comment that he had picked out two nice stalls on the outside for us. It was a while before I realized why he said that. The inside stalls ended up being harder to clean out. Also, our horses were exposed to everything the other horses contracted. It ended up being a hard six months until we finished building our barn and fences and moved our horses to our home. This same pattern had been part of my life for a long time. I have struggled with letting go of being in control. The LORD has been helping me learn to let Him and other people in my life have control, while at the same time trusting Him for the results. Believe me I have had lots of practice during this recent move. I always heard growing up that 'Practice makes perfect'. Nope, practice only makes it easier to yield. Unless the LORD delivers me, I will be practicing for the rest of my life. At least, I am aware of the problem now. Every time I mess up the Holy Spirit reminds me. More and more often I am making a good decision and when I mess up I yield sooner. God doesn't expect us to be perfect. He just expects us to want to learn. He is there every step of the way to help us. He never is cross with us. He says "let's just try that again." What a wonder working Father we have! There's hope for all of us.
