A Healing Herb: Unfounded Fear

  • I once rode a horse that had been raised in a stall. From the time he was weaned, he spent most of his four years in a horse barn. One day I rode him down the road. He did really well until I tried to get him to cross the bar ditch. He completely refused to cross. It was a really simple ditch that had been smoothed out to make it easier to mow. It was only about six inches deep, dry, and grassy. Not scary at all to most horses, but because he hadn't seen one before and it was not level like his stall, he was sure it was going to eat him. I spent thirty minutes trying to convince him it was safe to cross. He didn't believe me.

Sometimes I think we can be like this horse. When God brings something new and different into our lives, and He asks us to cross over with Him, we're just sure we can't. It's too scary! I believe we are coming into a time when there are going to be a lot of new things happening. Maybe we should get out of our stall and look around and become familiar with what God is doing. Remember, God won't tell us it's safe to cross if it's going to eat us!
