Wayne told a group during an open discussion, 'A man has no idea of what he
wants and then spends a lifetime trying to get it! That is my own biography
up to now. What is wrong with us?'
Elaine responded, 'Mankind has entered into a gigantic conspiracy to keep
everyone hypnotized. Look at the vacant faces you pass on the street and
you will see how well the conspiracy has succeeded. We want to escape from
it.'
Insisted a visitor, 'But surely things will improve with time and better
organization. I don't understand your negative attitudes towards the human
problem.'
Lew spoke up. 'It is not negative to face the fact that everything man has
tried up to now has failed. It is negative to refuse to see the obvious.
The quality of human life cannot be raised by the minds which have made it
what it is. Destruction cannot be constructive. But human destruction
always calls itself constructive, so the level remains the same. As Elaine
said, we are here to end self-hypnosis.'"
