How to Solve the Mystery of Authentic Self-Transformation
Imagine a thousand blocks of wood of all shapes and sizes. They are about
to pass through a machine which can fashion them into human figures. The
first step is to cut away the rough bark. Next, any weaknesses in the wood
are cut off. The third step consists in shaping the head and shoulders, and
so on. The blocks of wood which resist a particular stage cannot go on to
the next. For instance, if a hard part of a block refuses to be cut away,
the entire block is then unfit. But those pieces offering no resistance to
the transforming process come out as human figures. That is the process of
self-change we have been discussing throughout these pages."
