You're never going to get rid of the anxiety that you have the way you're
going about it now. Just thinking that the achievement is going to take it
away. It's not going to take it away. It's going to make it worse.
See you are making a dreadful mistake and you don't even know what the
question is. Do you want to know it? Do you want to know, can you face the
fact - listen to this, don't you close your mind to this if you have an
ounce of sincerity in you. Don't you know that it's impossible for you to
find quietness, to find self-command the way you're going about it now,
absolutely impossible.
Now you have a choice, and you have a choice of doing what I outlined very
briefly. You have a choice of looking around and saying, 'What on earth am
I doing here on earth?'
If you look long enough and honestly enough you will come to a horrible
but very healthy conclusion and here it is very briefly. That conclusion is
that you, as a human being here on earth, don't make any sense at all. Who
are you trying to kid? Those ambitions, those angry thoughts that you have,
all that insistence that you are right. You will never, never, never
convince yourself that you're right when you're wrong.
Isn't that marvelous news? Doesn't that mean that you don't have to punish
yourself anymore by doing what you've been doing all your life? Isn't that
good news to know that you could just stop?"
