"There is one special characteristic which we are going to discuss which a
true teacher such as Christ always possesses. And possesses completely,
that is he understands it, he knows it. And that is, and these are
opposites in a sense, what a true teacher knows is the complete ignorance
of human nature. He knows that man is undeveloped. He knows that he is
self-centered, that he is egotistical and therefore hostile toward anything
that threatens to take away the one thing that he falsely believes in,
which is himself.
Now Christ understood this and because He was a complete man, He also
understood the opposite of that, which is the height of divine wisdom.
Christ understood the existence of God; more than understood it - He lived
it, He was it. The spirit of God was in Christ as He occupied a physical
body here on earth.
Now anytime you want, you can take the New Testament and put it on one side
of the table and take a piece of paper on the other side and write down the
two points that I just covered.
The understanding of the lostness of human nature, how stubborn, how evil
human beings are, and on the other side of the paper you can put the height
of spiritual trueness - what God Himself knows, divine wisdom. Now when you
look at the New Testament - go all the way through it - you will find, it's
very interesting - try it sometime if you like - you'll find that
everything Christ said was an alternation between one or the other.
Didn't He lash out at the scribes and Pharisees of the day? He said,
outwardly you appear right and inwardly you are wretches. And a second
later He would say, ‘Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall find the
kingdom of God.' The truth shall set you free. This is very good as a mental
exercise for you."
