"Human beings, being what they are, always insist, in spite of all the
evidence, in spite of all the grief they suffer, they always insist that
they are right. 'I'm right; the way I think is it! How dare you go contrary
to what I've said is right for me!'
So their life becomes a dreary, low, terrible, daily grind of trying to
convince themselves that they are right, which since it can never be done,
they're in for it. And already you're remembering what I'm talking about.
Now, understand this as an addition to what you've already understood;
there is no way you can convince yourself that you're right, so why don't
you stop?
Now let's look at that a little bit. I just said, there is no way you'll
ever be able to be assured within yourself that your present way is the
right way, absolutely not. So the only sensible thing to do is to give up
your feeling about being accurate about your life. And the reason you can
never convince yourself that you're right is because there's NO SELF to be
right. Isn't that clear to you already?
You have no nature, you have no personality, you have no entity, you have
no name, you have nothing in you that can be right. No personal self that
can be virtuous, true. It can't be anything.
Now you know why the world is crazy and everybody attacking, assaulting,
hurting everyone else - because they're trying to do an impossible task of
convincing themselves that they have the answer. And it's all a bluff, it's
all a fake.
Now before I go on, I want you to get this point solid in your mind, so I'm
going to repeat it in a different way. There is no person dwelling inside
of you, there never has been, there never will be a person who can be right
about his life. It doesn't exist."
