While seeking a site for a new home, a man finally chose a hill overlooking
a dry river bed. His friends thought him very foolish. 'Your only view is
sand and dryness,' they told him.
But the man knew something his friends did not know.
One afternoon a trickle of water appeared in the river bed. By evening a
clear and attractive stream flowed below the building site.
The man explained to his friends, 'It was dry only because the upstream
water had been drained away by broken river banks. I bought the property up
there and stopped the drainage.'
