On a sunny summer afternoon, my shift was just starting and I was heading into the office when suddenly, from the patrol radio, a call came out of "10-33, 10-33" times 2. which meant that one of the troopers was needing help right now. He had come up on a veh on the side of a US highway 5 miles south of town with a man and woman outside of the veh in a fight. I sent out a message for any available unit to respond. My self and another patrol unit was on the bypass at a busy time of the day. Traffic was very heavy and tight with everyone in a hurry to get somewhere. I had my emergence lights and siren on coming up behind two lanes of traffic stopped for a traffic signal, looking for a place to proceed, I seen an opening to my right, however at that time on my right side was the local Ford dealership with a veh exiting their parking lot and the driveway was a up hill entrance to the highway right where I was going to be. As I approached, there were no where for me to go, the inside traffic lane was stopped and backup with veh's, the car was coming out of the Ford dealership lot and I layed down on my breaks expecting, this is not going to be good. My patrol veh at the time was a 1982 Ford Crown and the rear end was starting to come around to my front, knowing this was not going to end well, I released my brakes expecting people getting injured because again, there were no place for my big Ford to go and I was not slowing down. as I let off the breaks, all of a sudden the patrol veh straightened completely up in the right direction, the car coming out of the Ford dealership stopped just inside of my lane, the traffic light up ahead had turned green and traffic had started moving and I got through all of that mess with out a scratch to any one. Catching my breath I continued to the 10-33 call. I caught up with another patrol unit like he was on a Sunday afternoon stroll, traveling just ahead on the same bypass. He had no lights or siren on, of course I passed him and went on. As we were able to get the two under control and arrested for domestic assault and assault on a police officer, here comes the trooper I had passed. I was really upset with him because a fellow officer was calling for help and he was taken his time. When I asked him what was going on this is what he replied, " well, I knew all of you would travel code 3 as fast as you could, and If you all should have wrecked, and none could get here to help the trooper in need, and If I just drove normal I would have a better chance of getting here to help." I could not say a word, I just stood there and looked at him.
I shared this story with you to witness that when we are out of control, with no place to go, with no rescue in sight, God is still in control and can make ways when we cannot see them. God was in control that after noon, He took care of the trooper that needed help, troopers responding, and the one that was out of control that could have hurt others. So whatever your storm may be or may come, never give up on God, for He has a plan for your life even though it may look like a very bad wreck.
