I have many flaws. It is why I follow Christ, and have given my life over to him and His forgetful nature. “What?” you might ask. You heard me right, God’s forgetful nature, and I am excited about that. Context is everything to the Bible. Without context, the title of this blog would be, at the very least, misleading. You can no more pull a verse out of the Bible and build a doctrine around it, than you can by letting this title stand alone with no narrative (context).
As a human, I would count forgetfulness as a flaw. This is part of man’s human nature. However, in God’s case, I would count it as a virtue.
For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more [Hebrews 8:12 KJV].
I have sinned more than I care to acknowledge or even share. Hebrews 8:12 does not mean that God forgets that men are sinners, but their sins are not charged against them, as if they had never sinned [1], but only through Christ. Christ imputed unto us righteousness [2]. This enabled Christian justification.
Thank you, Jesus for your forgetfulness. Thank you for imputing your righteousness unto us from the Cross. Thank you for your redemption and for my salvation. In your precious name, AMEN.
Christians are justified through faith in Christ.
