THE POWER OF GENERATIONAL UNITY
DUTCH SHEETS, COLORADO SPRINGS, CO
“No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; or else the new piece pulls away from the old, and the tear is made worse. And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine bursts the wineskins, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins.” (Mark 2:21-22)
For centuries, wineskins were used to hold wine. If the wineskin wasn’t properly cared for, it would harden. Therefore, if new wine was poured into an old wineskin, the fermentation process would cause the old, hardened wineskin to burst, thereby, losing the wine.
However, the old wineskin could go through a process where it is soaked in oil and water, causing it to be renewed and soft once again. Every wineskin had to be transformed by this process before it could hold new wine again.
Just like the wineskin, there are times in our lives when we must be renewed, and it has to be intentional. Our paradigms need to shift, our methods changed and perhaps, our theology challenged. The oil of the spirit of God and the water of Holy Spirit come to shape us.
Spiritual mothers and fathers are often the voices God uses to reshape us in this renewal process. Relationships between the generations are integral to God’s plan for revival and awakening. In fact, God has purposed that neither group can fulfill God’s calling without it. Some of the previous moves of God have ended prematurely because this was lacking.
But there is a new generation - one that is hungry for mothers and fathers. When the wisdom and experience of one generation are combined with the zeal and boldness of the next, God's purposes will not be stopped.
Get ready. It’s time to join the generations!
