"THE HEART POSTURE OF A KINGDOM LEADER"
HARMONY KLINGENMEYER, ROSEBURG, OREGON
"So Jesus called them together and said, 'You know that the rulers in this world Lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give His life as a ransom for many.'" (Mark 10:42-45 NLT)
What does it look like, practically, to be a servant of all? It looks like relationships over rights. It looks like choosing peace and unity instead of insisting on our own way. It looks like listening instead of fighting to be heard, and it also looks like speaking up for the sake of love and reconciliation.
Jesus demonstrates the path to spiritual authority for every Believer. There is no authority apart from the Cross, because there is no need for resurrection life where there has been no death. If we want to experience the level of power that raised Jesus from the dead, that was manifested in Peter's shadow, that shook the prison where Paul and Silas worshiped, we must be willing to get on the cross FIRST.
James and John said to Jesus, "...'Let one of us sit at Your right and the other at Your left in Your glory.'
"'You don't know what you are asking,' Jesus said. 'Can you drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?'
"'We can,' they answered.
"Jesus said to them, 'You will drink the cup I drink and be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with, but to sit at My right or left is not for Me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared.'" (Mark 10:37-40)
Are we willing to become the servant of all today? Will you join me in praying this prayer?
Papa God, I surrender to Your will today. Show me how I can be the servant of all in my home, in my workplace, in the Church and in my community; not so I can earn Your love or blessing, but because I have them already, and because you are worthy, I lay down my life. In Jesus' name, amen.
