HOLINESS
DEMONTAE EDMONDS, ATLANTA GEORGIA
WHAT IS HOLINESS? May I propose that holiness is more than merely learning dos and don'ts? It is the place of denying one's flesh and will to such a degree that one learns to operate and live out of their spirit, by the Holy Spirit. In this place, the motivations of the flesh and even one's emotions begin to wane. The self, once seated on the throne of the heart, is replaced by the operation of a recreated spirit, where Christ within takes His rightful place. Holiness is where one ceases from striving in their own strength. Resistance to sin and temptation is no longer grievous but becomes natural, as pleasing the Lord becomes one's pursuit. There is an inner realization of being set apart and consecrated for the Lord's purpose, bringing both a fear of the Lord and an awareness of divine protection and safety.
Holiness is the place Paul speaks of in Romans 1:9 (BSB): "God, whom I serve with my spirit in preaching the gospel of His Son..." It is where we transition from willpower to "Spirit power" and Spirit empowerment. Our thoughts, emotions, and deeds become energized by the Spirit of God. In this place, love becomes sincere, and we hate what is evil while clinging to what is good (Romans 12:9). The Father's agenda becomes our own, not through self-will but by divine alignment. Holiness is not merely abstaining from wrongdoing; it is partaking in the divine inheritance found in the person of Jesus Christ. May the Spirit of holiness return to the ekklesia and the body of Christ in greater measure than ever before! "Because it is written, 'Be ye holy; for I am holy'" (1 Peter 1:16 KJV). Holiness is the place where we worship out of a deep admiration and purity—the place where we worship in Spirit and truth. John 4:24 (NKJV),"God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."
A prayer for holiness to be restored in the church:
Heavenly Father, we come before you with humble hearts, crying out for the restoration of holiness in your church. You are holy, and you have called us to be holy as well. Lord, cleanse us from anything that dishonors you, and renew within us a passion for righteousness. Forgive us where we have compromised, where we have allowed the world to shape us instead of being transformed by your Spirit. Purge every impurity, every distraction, and every sin that hinders your presence among us. Revive a deep reverence for your Word, a hunger for truth, and a commitment to live set apart for your glory. Holy Spirit, move through every pulpit, every congregation, and every believer. Let your fire refine us, restoring purity, integrity, and love for one another.
Raise up leaders who walk in holiness, who preach with boldness, and who lead with righteousness. May the church once again be a beacon of light, a reflection of your divine nature, and a dwelling place for your presence. Father, let our worship be pure, our service be sincere, and our hearts be fully devoted to you. Remove every spirit of complacency, compromise, and worldliness, and replace it with a fresh anointing of holiness and power. May we be known as a people set apart, shining with your love and truth in a dark world. We declare that holiness will rise again in the church, that revival will sweep across nations, and that your name will be glorified. Sanctify us, O Lord, and use us for your kingdom. In Jesus' holy and mighty name, we pray. Amen.
