DISCERN THE TIMING OF YOUR PROPHETIC WORD OR PROMISE
DANIELLE DIXON, QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA
"He has made everything beautiful in its time... yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end." (Ecclesiastes 3:11, NIV)
Many people are so afraid of missing God's timing that they stay still, even when He is prompting them to move. We are in a season where destinies are being fulfilled.
God wants to break the lie that stepping out too soon will ruin everything. Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us that He has plans (plural), not just one perfect plan: "'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future'" (NIV). There is more than one way God can establish His purposes in your life.
God isn't disappointed by your sincere steps of faith. He celebrates your obedience and passion. He's not a "three strikes and you're out" God—He's a loving Father who redirects, protects, and walks with us. Even if you step out in the wrong timing, it becomes a valuable learning moment. "In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps" (Proverbs 16:9 NIV). Your journey is in His hands, and He's a safe place, even when you don't get it right.
These are keys for testing your prophetic word/promise:
1. Confirmation: Let your prophetic word or promise be confirmed by other sources. The closer you are to the right season, the more frequent and clear the confirmations will be.
2. Take a step forward: Begin to move toward the promise. If peace follows and things begin to align, you may be in the right time. If it feels forced or overwhelming, pause and reassess.
3. Live and learn: Mistakes don't always mean disobedience. Often, they are part of God's training to help you grow in wisdom and discernment.
4. Ask God: It sounds simple, but don't forget to ask the Lord directly. Is this the right time? You may not hear immediately, but He will answer in His way.
YOU HAVEN'T MISSED IT. The enemy wants you to believe you've missed your moment or that your destiny is over. That's a lie.
"For the Lord of Hosts has planned, and who can stop it?" (Isaiah 14:27 NHEB)
"I know that You can do all things and that no plan of Yours can be thwarted." (Job 42:2 BSB)
"Now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation." (2 Corinthians 6:2 NIV)
God's plan for your life isn't cancelled by your weakness, your timing, or even your mistakes. It may be delayed... but it can't be stopped. Trust Him, step forward in faith, and keep listening.
