DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE UNLAYERING

At the beginning of the year, the Lord whispered my word for 2025: Deeper.
I thought it would only mean going deeper in prayer, in Scripture, in His presence. But I've discovered that going deeper with Him also means going deeper into my own heart, into what brings joy and peace, but also into the places that ache, the wounds I'd rather not look at. Ah... that's what He really meant when He whispered that word to me; He wanted to heal my heart.
It reminds me of C.S. Lewis' story in "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader." Eustace, the boy who became a dragon, tries to scratch off his own scales but could never get them all. Then Aslan comes. The lion digs his claws in so deeply it feels like he is clawing into his very heart. It hurts terribly... yet it was the only way for the dragon skin to truly come off to reveal the true identity of the boy hiding underneath. The process is painstakingly difficult, but once all the scales are gone, Eustace is restored—tender, clean, and free.
The process might not be pleasant, but sometimes the Lord peels back our "dragon scales"—those old wounds, false identities, or defenses we've built—and even though the unlayering can feel raw and vulnerable, with Jesus it is always safe. Let Him do it, and don't run from this process. We all have them, and He wants them gone!
What I'm learning, and what I want to say to you today is this: don't be afraid of the unlayering. Lay down the dragon skin. I know it can feel like it's protecting you, but it isn't who you really are. What feels like pain is often the very process of freedom. The Lion is making you new, and there is nothing more freeing or more beautiful than going deeper with Him.
"And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh." (Ezekiel 36:26 ESV)
So, I just wanted to remind you that you are loved, and He is healing you. It might not feel like it sometimes, but if we let Him do His work in us, we will never be disappointed.
