WHEN HIS PRESENCE IS ENOUGH
STEPHANIE CLAIBORNE, ANCHORAGE, ALASKA
The other day, I had the unique privilege of encountering the presence of the Lord for most of the day. As I encountered the waves of His love, I asked Him what He was saying. I heard Him tell me that we are not used to hosting His weighty presence/glory for long periods of time; we have gotten used to the way that the Church has operated where we are ready to move on to the next thing (whatever that may be). I heard the Spirit of the Lord say that as we begin to lean into Him and not hurry too quickly, we will see that the veil is actually very thin right now. We have unprecedented access into His heart.
I asked the Father what this looked like in the Scriptures, and I was taken into Exodus.
"'If You are pleased with me, teach me Your ways so I may know You and continue to find favor with You. Remember that this nation is Your people.' The Lord replied, 'My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.' Then Moses said to Him, 'If Your presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. How will anyone know that You are pleased with me and with Your people unless You go with us? What else will distinguish me and Your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?' And the Lord said to Moses, 'I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name.' Then Moses said, 'Now show me Your glory.'" (Exodus 33:13-18 NIV)
This is a Scripture that we have read before and most likely have said to ourselves, "It would be amazing to encounter Him in this way," but the Spirit of the Lord is saying that this is His desire for us; that we encounter His presence in such a way that we are changed each and every time.
The Spirit of the Lord began to speak to me about how He enters the room all the time, but that we may not always be able to pay attention to Him. He will continue to approach us but it is up to us, as His Bride, to turn our attention towards His face.
STEWARDING HIS PRESENCE
I then was reminded of the Scripture in Psalm 16:11 (NIV), "You make known to me the path of life; You will fill me with joy in Your presence, with eternal pleasures at Your right hand."
Isn’t it something? It’s IN HIS PRESENCE that we will know the path of life and will be filled with joy.
The Lord also began to unpack for me how it is important to steward His presence like the parable of the virgins. This is what we read in Matthew 25:1-13 (NIV):
"At that time the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.
"At midnight the cry rang out: 'Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!' Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps.
"The foolish ones said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.' 'No,' they replied, 'there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.'
"But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.
"Later the others also came. 'Lord, Lord,' they said, 'open the door for us!' But he replied, 'Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.'
"Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour."
We are in remarkable times as we are having to be responsible for the oil of His presence; for maintaining a level of connection with our Bridegroom, Jesus.
Recently as I sat on my couch weeping, I encountered His presence, and the Lord showed me this vision of Him approaching the Bride, but her attention was on what the world was doing. I saw as the Bridegroom approached the Bride, He took her face in His hands and turned her towards Him.
This is the season in which we will begin to have our gaze upon Him as we are now in a place to push away everything that doesn’t matter. The Spirit of The Lord is saying, "Now is the time to yield unto Me as I will begin to transform life around you."
The question for us now is this: Are we are ready to go where His presence will lead us? For me and my house, the answer is YES!
