This week begins the most dreaded book of the Old Testament Leviticus. However there is so much in this book. It is also called the Book of Sacrifices. What we miss in our modern day New Covenant ideas is when the animal is presented to the Priest. The sinner would lay their hand on animal confess their sin then they would have to slit the throat of the animal himself. It was not the Priests responsibility to kill your animal. He is not the one who sinned. Once the sinner killed the animal the Priest would then sprinkle the blood, cut the animal apart following the procedures laid out based on the type of sacrifice it was. This imagery here makes you think twice before committee the sin again. In this system sin costs you something valuable. Today is no different sin will always cost you something.
