I apologize for getting this weeks Parashat out so late. This week we hear the rest of Isaac’s story. What I find interesting is Isaac is the Patriarch we know the least about. He has the least written about him in Genesis. What I would like to focus on is Isaac’s story. Isaac is given a word by God reaffirming the covenant God made with Abraham. Isaac then sows in time of Famine and reaps 100 fold. Isaac then settles and upsets the locals. He digs well after well and is challenged. King Abimelech then kicks Isaac out of the land. Isaac digs a well and finally it is not fought over. From this point on Isaac now moves from place to place. God came back to him again and reaffirms the covenant. This time God does not mention the land. It was not yet time for Isaac to settle down. It was not time for him to mingle and be influenced by the people around him. He had not yet grown to the point he would be able to take over. There was still some growing and maturing needed. How many of us has God called to keep moving but have settled down? We have settled into a job or into a cliche that is influencing us and not us influencing them. It is time we begin to move again.
