This week is a double Parashat week. We also finish the book of Leviticus. We read about the Shemitah Years and the Jubilee Year. Then we learn the blessings the Lord will do for those who follow His Statutes and the cures that follow when we don’t follow His Statutes.
When you read this what does it remind you of? It reminds me of the Garden of Eden. Now there is no longer a garden with the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God now sets other boundaries that everyone can honor. He sets a specific time that belongs to Him. He sets up the Sabbath, the Shemitah, and the Jubilee as Holy and set apart. If you honor His set apart days and years He blesses you. God tells us He will cause the land to be fruitful and multiply. He gives us dominion over the wild animals and they will not enter your land nor will your enemies. Now God says He will multiply the people. God then says He will walk among the people. Do you see the similarities of the Garden?
Now the curses section follows the story of Cain. God tells the people if they do not honor the Shemitah, and Jubilee that when they plant crops it will be in vain. God will turn against you. Your enemies will chase you. God will punish you 7 times more. God says He will close up the sky. Your land will not yield any crops and trees will not yield any fruit. God will punish you 7 times more. God then says He will send animals to rob you of your children and destroy your livestock. Then God says He will will personally strike you with calamity 7 times. God tells how He will send armies to attack you. The food will be rationed and 10 women will have to use 1 oven. If you still refuse to line up God will then punish you 7 times more. He will destroy everything that pulls you away from Him and His ways. He will remove you and your cities so the land may rest to make up for your abuse of the land.
Cain was caused to wander the land never able to find a home or land that would yield a produce for him. Everything in the Word of God comes full circle. We are head back to the Garden experience in a much greater way (New Jerusalem). Are you in a season where nothing is yielding fruit? If so repent and set things right with God. God has a desire to know we will honor Him no matter what. What idols have been set up that need to be tore down? What is stealing time from God? Time is short we have to get it right now.
