This week we read Moses’s final address to Israel. He is preparing them to walk into their promise and purpose. We can learn a lot from what is written in this week’s Parashat. Moses tells the Israelites that they are going to take out 7 nations that are greater than they are. He tells them God is on their side. He tells them that God is going to go before them as a great fire, He will subdue the enemy so you can quickly conquer them. God tells them to destroy all their alters, idols and places of worship. He tells them not to covet any of their gold or silver covering the idols. He tells them not to bring detestable things into their homes. Don’t bring things that should be destroyed into your home or it’s destruction will come onto you.
Moses goes on to tell the Children of Israel not to think they are the ones who took the land. He reminds them to not forget God in the blessings. He then tells them that God did not give them the land because they are good people. He tells them they are getting the land because of the wickedness of the other nations. He then goes on the tell them that it was not because of their integrity. He is giving you the land because of the wickedness of the other nation and the promise He made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. How humbling are these words?
Don’t think for a second that you are where you are because of your greatness. You have what you have because God gave it to you. Remember it is God who gave you the ability to acquire wealth. He blesses the work of your hands. He is the one who gave you, your gifts and talents. He gave them to you without repentance. That means no matter what you do with those gifts God does not regret giving you the gift. However if you are not using the gift or you are not using the gift for what it was intended you will be the one with regret. Choose today to put God 1st. Use your gift the right way. Today you have to choose.
