Our reading this week is about the spies who gave the bad report. Ten men lead over two million people astray. 10 men caused a whole generation to die in the wilderness. It started with last weeks reading. Foreign Rabble lead Israel astray looking back to Egypt. Now high ranking insiders not outsiders are leading Israel to death and destruction. Be careful whose report you listen too. The crowd is usually wrong. Notice how the negative news travels so much faster than the positive news Joshua and Caleb shared. The negative news infects people like a disease it spreads and kills faith. People are naturally drawn to fear.

The people lead by fear began to complain about God and Moses. They said they would be killed in battle and their children would be carried off as plunder. They said it would have been better for them to stay in Egypt. Here is God’s response:

Numbers 14:28-34
“Now tell them this: ‘As surely as I live, declares the Lord, I will do to you the very things I heard you say. You will all drop dead in this wilderness! Because you complained against me, every one of you who is twenty years old or older and was included in the registration will die. You will not enter and occupy the land I swore to give you. The only exceptions will be Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun. “‘You said your children would be carried off as plunder. Well, I will bring them safely into the land, and they will enjoy what you have despised. But as for you, you will drop dead in this wilderness. And your children will be like shepherds, wandering in the wilderness for forty years. In this way, they will pay for your faithlessness, until the last of you lies dead in the wilderness. “‘Because your men explored the land for forty days, you must wander in the wilderness for forty years—a year for each day, suffering the consequences of your sins. Then you will discover what it is like to have me for an enemy.’”

Now the question is who are you allowing to speak into your life? Are you allowing negative faithless people to speak into you? Are you listening to the Media who are only focused on doom and gloom? Are you following people on social media who are questionable? What voices are you giving access to your life? I choose to look for the Joshuas and Calebs to speak into my life not the 10 negative losers.
