This issue is something that can affect any gun owner who is involved in a defensive shooting.

Please read the below message I received from Elton Weise’s fundraising team.

Do You Carry a Gun for Self Defense?

Defend Elton Weise
Defend Yourself

FUND RAISING FOR LEGAL COSTS

On Friday 20th July 2018, Elton Weise was involved in a self-defense shooting incident in Worcester, Western Cape during which his attacker was shot dead.

• Elton was arrested immediately afterwards
• Spent the weekend in jail
• Was arraigned on July 23rd and denied bail.
• Appeared on a formal bail application on 31st July.
• The police took him home in shackles and confiscated all his firearms and ammunition as well as his competency certificates.
• They instructed the dealer where he has a business competency that he may not operate there.
• They visited a training academy where he works as an instructor and notified them that he may not work there.
• The case has become politicised and was so from the first day.
• The media have already tried the case and found Elton guilty in the newspapers and online.
• The State has opposed bail because ‘it is a very serious crime’ and ‘the community are upset.’
• Elton is treated as if he has already been tried and found guilty.
• Subsequent facts have emerged regarding the mental state and criminal record of Elton’s attacker – none of this information was divulged to the Court by the investigating officer.
• Elton was granted bail of R10 000 and released in August 2018. Part of the bail conditions is that Elton has to sign at the Worcester Police Station on a Friday morning and Monday morning. This has limited his business travel severely and curbed any sort of social life with his extended family, who are not in Worcester.
• Elton has been in court 13 times over the last year, most times just for postponement with no progress whatsoever.
• We have raised a remarkable amount of money from Elton’s supporters, friends and families and even strangers from around the world. This has been significant in helping us to get to this stage of the case, which is trial.
• We have 2 trial dates in early October 2019 (hopefully this is sufficient to conclude the case, given the inordinate and unconnected delays in the Regional Court). Elton needs YOUR HELP to raise R75 000 for the last two days of the trial in October. The legal team, led by William Booth, is confident that the case will come to close In October 2019.

What does this mean for you as a gun owner?
What will happen to you if you have to use your gun in self-defense?
How will the police treat you?

Our appeal to you today is to assist Elton by donating money for his legal defense and spreading the word on social media and amongst your associates, friends and family.

This incident has had a wide-spread impact on the Weise family. Not only are the Weise family in utter gratitude and debt of those far and wide that contributed to the legal fees thus far, the psychological impact on the entire family has been severe over the last year. The Weise family (Elton in particular) is in financial debt from certain loans. He has had to endure a year without his guns, which are his livelihood in terms of a committed sport and relaxation tool, not to mention an ever so important loss of income for a period of time. Elton’s children have been exposed to fear and uncertainty that no family should have to endure, no matter the age of the children. Elton’s wife, Sally, after having the benefit and joy of 13 years in remission from depression and anxiety, has relapsed, causing the family further strife and financial strain. This incident has had a harsh impact on Elton, the “victim” in this instance as he has been persecuted before any final validation but also for the family, who are continue to feel stress and strain.

Our appeal for financial aid is dire as the case cannot go forward without the Booth firm receiving the required funds as mentioned above.

This high-profile case may establish an overreach on the part of the State and serve as a guideline to the Police and Courts for future matters of this nature.

Help Elton – and send a message to the police that in South Africa we are innocent until proven guilty.

Bank details on poster attached. If you are able to contribute it would be a blessing and thank you.
