Mind of Christ (2)

  • Here comes that very important question asked by Paul in 1 Corinthians 2:16.

16 For who has known the mind of the lord, that he will instruct him?

Once again, notice that’s the only part of the verse either in italics or set apart. That's because Paul is quoting an old testament statement. The next part is not. So we know Paul is speaking that part and it says – but we have the mind of Christ.

The mind of Christ was provided for us through the finished work of the cross. Just like salvation, healing, deliverance, power, authority, peace, love, joy, dominion, mercy, and grace. But we by faith step into these things through studying the deeper truths of God’s word.

The revelation of all these things increase and we grow in them so that our minds are renewed to kingdom thinking, which is the mind of Christ.

Here’s the point that’s being made here. The Old Testament prophet says – “things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, and which have not entered the heart of man, all that god has prepared for those who love him.”

The Old Testament prophet said we don’t know those things. We haven’t seen them nor heard them and they’re not in our heart. But Paul says – Yes, but the Spirit knows them. Not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit of Christ. The Spirit of Christ lives in us, therefore we know the things they did not know.

The Old Testament prophet says – “for who has known the mind of the lord, that he will instruct him?” Like who knows what God’s thinking? Paul says……..we do!

People say, “ya but God’s ways are higher than our ways”. Well, they were until God raised us up. Ephesians 2:6 says “and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus”.

So, when people say God’s ways are higher than our ways. Who can know them? That’s Old Testament prophet speak. But he wasn’t seated in heavenly places, because he wasn’t a new creation.

We are actually seated in heavenly places with Christ. It doesn’t get any higher than that.

So the thoughts of God are not above you. If He’s in you and you’re in Him, and you’re seated in heavenly places, now his thoughts become your thoughts. Also, your thoughts are his thoughts, because you have the mind of Christ.

He gave you his mind. Paul tells us in Philippians 2 to let his mind be in us. Here it is.

let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God.

There’s the problem. Religion makes people believe they are robbing from God, but that’s not what Paul and his followers thought. They thought it “not robbery” to be equal with God.

Kris Vallotton says “it’s time to lose your mind and get His”. You have access to the thoughts of God.

Look at the questions in Romans 11. Here Paul is pointing out the thoughts of those who did not know Christ like Paul did.

34 For who hath known the mind of the Lord? Or who hath been His counsellor? 35 Or who hath first given to Him, and it shall be recompensed unto Him again? 36 For of Him, and through Him, and to Him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.

Remember, there were no chapters in Paul’s writings. So he goes on to answer those questions in verses 34 and 35. Paul said it in Romans 12:2. “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect”.

Get rid of your old worldly mind or thinking and get God’s mind. Let His mind be in you like it was in Jesus, so we can prove what His will is. That means his thoughts.

Not only do we have the mind of Christ, but we are new creatures. We have a new heart. We are new creations.

God sucked your brains out and put His in. He is the ultimate body snatcher. He took the old man out of you and came into you to live and be. Paul said “it is no longer I who live but…..” Gal 2:20, Col 3:3.

We don’t operate out of the wisdom of men. We operate out of the wisdom of God. That comes from the Spirit of God who lives and dwells within us.

Who can know the thoughts of God? WE CAN….Grace and Peace.
