Knowing Who You Are In Christ (2)

  • In Romans 8:37 the bible declares through Paul that we are more than conquerors. That doesn’t do you or I any good until we are convinced of it’s truth. A millionaire would not benefit from his bank account if he didn’t realize it was there and that it was his.

I believe that many in the Christian community are truly ignorant of who they are in Christ. As a result, they don’t know what is truly theirs.

Abraham Lincoln signed the emancipation proclamation. As a result, all American slaves were freed, but not all slaves knew they’d been set free. They kept serving in bondage, because they were ignorant of the change that had taken place.

This is exactly the tact of the enemy. Hosea 4:6 describes how we are destroyed? It’s because we don’t know Him it says in the NLT. Okay. I know. That’s Old Testament. Well then, lets look at 2 Peter 1:3. It reads “By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.”

So here is a New Testament declaration of truth. What the Old Testament proclaims, the New Testament explains. It reveals “God has given us everything we need”. How do we receive it? Not by works. Not by performance. Not by following a set of legalistic religious rules, but BY COMING TO KNOW HIM.

It’s through the knowledge of him that this scripture works. If the enemy can keep a Christian ignorant or in unbelief, he can keep them in bondage. This will happen even though the law of liberty in Christ Jesus has made them free.

The enemy likes to use the old religious untrue doctrinal teachings about us being unworthy. “You’re just condemned old sinners, saved by grace.” I am not an old sinner saved by grace. I WAS an old sinner who has been saved by grace. I am now righteous and holy in Christ Jesus.

Quit listening to the false statements and just get over all that. Start living the victorious life in Christ and quit rehearsing this over and over. Don’t listen to the naysayers that like to try and sound religious by bringing it up. It’s nothing but false humility.

2 Corinthians 5:21 states that I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. I am not unworthy any longer in my spirit man. In 1 Corinthians 2:1,2 Paul is saying he wasn’t focused on the rules of men or the church. He wasn’t trying to show off how spiritual he was by jumping around or falling down on his own. He wasn’t trying to brag about how much he gave, or attended church, or read his bible. He wasn’t trying to learn all the rules of the denomination. NO! All he was interested in is Jesus Christ and Him crucified. It’s where we ought to be today.

Ephesians 4:24 in the NLT reads “Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy”. Put on the new man, your born-again spirit man. My spirit is righteous and truly holy.

Right away, here come the religious folks quoting Isaiah 64:6 and Romans 3:10, but I didn’t say my self righteousness. That falls into Romans 3:23. I said my righteousness in Christ Jesus. That’s covered by 2 Corinthians 5:21.

If we agree with the first part of 2 Corinthians 5:21 why do we fight against believing and accepting the second part?

Ephesians 4:24 says our spirits are now righteous and truly holy. Hebrews 12:23 makes it clear that our righteousness is not just for heaven, but it’s right now, right here for this time. Ignorance of who we are in our spirits has made it impossible for us to act in faith.

Philemon 6 reads “And I am praying that you will put into action the generosity that comes from your faith as you understand and experience all the good things we have in Christ”. I have said it a number of times before. You cannot fully understand something until you’ve had an experience. So, wrap faith around the truth you hear or study until you get a deeper revelation of that truth, that leads to an experience, which will bring understanding. It’s time to begin to know the good things that are in your spirit provided to you by Christ.

We continually hear people say “without Jesus, I can do nothing”. Now, that’s true, but it’s a religious statement. It’s false humility again. How about balancing it with Philippians 4:13. “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”

We are totally dependent on Jesus, but as we depend on Jesus we must realize that we are totally superior to any weapon the enemy can use against us.

1 John 4:4 states that “greater is He that is in me, than he who is in the world”. 1 John 5:4 states that “every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this through our faith”. Hebrews 12:2 states He’s the author and finisher of our faith.

Even in those scriptures we realize it has nothing to do with us. One scripture declares we defeat the enemy through our faith. Then the next declares that He is the author and finisher of our faith. So, He even provides and completes the faith we have so we can realize it and thereby defeat the enemy. It’s all done by God and not by us.

It’s time to turn our stinking thinking away from our frailty and renew our mind to who you are in Christ Jesus by focusing on his sufficiency. Reposition ourselves to take our place in Him. We are heirs and joint heirs, kingdom kids, all authority is ours in Christ Jesus.

Let me say it one last time in this study. You’ll see it again on this website, but here it is as I close this study/teaching.

The key to spiritual transformation is the renewing of the mind. You will know that your mind is renewed when the impossible looks logical. The Holy Spirit put great emphasis on the mind, that’s why in Philippians 2:5 it says “LET this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus”. In other words, have the same attitude that Jesus had on this earth knowing that all His power and authority came as a result of knowing who He was in the Father and being one with Him.

Just do a word search on the word mind from Acts through Hebrews and see the importance placed on the mind. Remember, the supernatural realm is only accessible to the measure with which your mind is renewed. That part of your mind that has been renewed will give you entrance into the supernatural realm where miracles are normal. Why do you think the enemy attacks you in your mind. He knows the importance of preventing your mind from being renewed.

Paul wrote in Ephesians 4:23 that we should “be renewed in the spirit of your mind”. Romans 15:6 – “That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I cannot urge you strong enough to do that word search I mentioned above. Also, study the teaching “Mind of Christ” that has been posted on this site. Renewing of the mind is the absolute pathway to truly understanding who you are in Christ and who He is in you. Grace and Peace.
