The Triumphal Entry

  The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them. They brought the donkey and the colt and put on them their cloaks, and he sat on them. Most of the crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. And the crowds went before him and that followed him were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed be he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” (Matthew 21:6-9 ESV)

  

   

  Today we celebrate Palm Sunday, the triumphal entry of Jesus back into Jerusalem and the beginning of Holy Week. Upon entering the city, it is now just days before the Last Supper, His betrayal, crucifixion and resurrection. But before these events, Jesus boldly rode as the King of Peace entering Jerusalem, and the crowd gladly joined Him.

   

  But these same people would soon bow to political pressure and desert Him. Prior to His arrest, Jesus would cleanse the temple, continue teaching through the lessons of several parables, and give the great commandment, “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind." (Matthew 22:37 NKJV)

   

  He also condemned the religious leaders, grieved over Jerusalem, talked about His return and the Final Judgment, and predicted His betrayal saying, “As you know, the Passover is two days away – and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified." (Matthew 26:2 NIV)

   

  The days were busy with many events, and Jesus fully knew what was coming, His horrible death on the cross, serving as the perfect sacrificial Lamb to take away the sins of the entire world. That’s right – the sins of everyone who will confess Him as their Lord and Savior. Praise be to God for loving us so much that He sent his only begotten Son into the world to die for our sins!

   

  Ride on, ride on in majesty!
