HOLY GRIEF: Reading the Bible

  • HOLY GRIEF: Reading the Bible

For a period of time after my husband Jim died I struggled with reading the Bible. In fact I struggled with reading books or pretty much anything. My concentration just wasn't there. I have a friend who experienced the same thing.

So the Lord showed me how I could read His Word by using Bible Gateway's audio system to listen to the Bible on my cell phone, while reading it at the same time from my own Bible. Scriptures helped to sooth my soul and mend my heart.

Often I would play the New Testament on CD's while cooking, cleaning, laundry, driving, or just relaxing after I got home from work.

Reading the Bible for even for 15 minutes a day is a very important and powerful tool in the healing process of your mind, will, emotions, and your body.

    Romans 15:4 (ESV)

For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

Please share your experiences in reading the Bible while healing from the loss of a loved one.

Cecilia Pulliam I read devotions with scripture every morning. Been doing that most of my life, even when there is not a crisis. I can't imagine not spending time in prayer and meditation with Scripture. It changes my attitude, which changes the way my day proceeds.

Helena Goodman After the death of my husband of 44 years i found myself very lonely and started to look for companionship in the wrong places. The studying of Gods word saved me from making some very bad mistakes.
