This is a medley of Nearer My God to Thee/Amazing Grace played by myself and my wife, with pictures from my archive of the Oregon coast. These were all near Yachats, one of my favorite places. The camera operator was a little shaky, but it is frequently very windy on certain parts of the coast anyway. The music (unlike our videos with accomaniment) is improvised - no plan at all. If you hear any extra noises they have been provided by our cat, Heska. It seems that violins inspire him to play, somewhat wildly at times, and the most appealing place to do so is right near the microphone. I think I was able to edit most of those sounds out.
The words for Nearer My God to Thee were written by Sarah Fuller Adams (1805-1848) in 1841. The music was written by Lowell Mason (1792-1872) in 1856. This hymn became popular as it was said to be what the string ensemble was playing and passengers were singing as the Titanic was going down. Amazing Grace is probably one of the most recognized tunes in the United States. The words were written in 1772 by John Nexton (1725-1807). It was combined with an existing tune called "New Britain." Hope you enjoy.
