This weeks Parashat focuses on the Nazirite Vow. We read about the requirements for someone who chooses to set themselves apart for God. We learn they are not to have anything to do with grapes or anything that comes from them. They are to begin the vow by shaving their head and to end the vow by shaving their head. They are to bring a specific offering, but they are able to add anything they desire to it.
We then read about Sampson and his mother’s requirements for her and him to be a Nazirite. We then read in the New Testament about Paul coming to the temple to fulfill his Nazirite vow as well.
What I love about this Parashat is after we are introduced to the Nazirite Vow we immediately get the Aaronic Blessing. The blessing that Aaron and his descendants are to speak over God’s people.
“‘May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.’”
The best part of all of this it is Pentecost. The reading we get is the Father’s blessing over His people. We also get the Gift of the Holy Spirit. His Favor never stops for those who love Him.

Did Jesus do this too?
But in all the pictures I have seen. I don’t see a haircut on. Jesus.

When they cut their hair at the end of the Vow it would be offered on the alter with their burn sacrifice Holy unto the Lord. I have not gone into great study on the vow. I find it interesting that the Aaronic Blessing is the immediate text after it and that Jesus told His disciples to wait in the upper room for the Holy Spirit the Ultimate Blessing which is the same week we read these things in the Parashats. The disciples were set apart like those who would take a Nazirite Vow then the blessing came in a mighty rushing wind. less
