This weeks Parashat focuses on the story of Noah and concludes with the Tower of Babel and the introduction of Abram. When we compare the language of Creation with the story of Noah we find a lot of similarities. The story of creation starts with water and darkness. God separates the waters. He puts water above the Earth and water below the Earth. He creates man and gives him dominion over everything on the Earth. God gives man every seed bearing plant to eat. Sin then enters the world creating giants.
“There were Nephilim (men of stature, notorious men) on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God lived with the daughters of men, and they gave birth to their children. These were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown (great reputation, fame). The Lord saw that the wickedness (depravity) of man was great on the earth, and that every imagination or intent of the thoughts of his heart were only evil continually. The Lord regretted that He had made mankind on the earth, and He was [deeply] grieved in His heart. So the Lord said, “I will destroy (annihilate) mankind whom I have created from the surface of the earth—not only man, but the animals and the crawling things and the birds of the air—because it [deeply] grieves Me [to see mankind’s sin] and I regret that I have made them.” But Noah found favor and grace in the eyes of the Lord.”
Genesis 6:4-8 AMP
God tells Noah He is going to flood the Earth. Now let’s stop and process what we read in the 1st 6 chapters of Genesis. Water is above the Earth and below it. The Earth sounds like a womb. (Could this be where the term Mother Earth came from? Everything has a place where it originates from. I am in no way promoting any form of New Age, just making an observation.). The Earth now has expanded with so many people and sin that it can no longer contain these giant people or the sin. The water must break and a new world must be created. Noah is the 9th generation from Adam. Compare this with the nine months a woman carries a child before birth.
“Those which entered, male and female of all flesh (creatures), entered as God had commanded Noah; and the Lord closed the door behind him.”
Genesis 7:16 AMP
Notice how the Lord is the one who closed the door. After the flood Noah is the one who opens the door.
“Now in the six hundred and first year [of Noah’s life], on the first day of the first month, the waters were drying up from the earth. Then Noah removed the covering of the ark and looked, and the surface of the ground was drying.”
Genesis 8:13 AMP
Look at the wording of how God destroys the Earth. He caused the water to rain down which had never happened before. He put the world back into its original state before He created it. We have water everywhere. We have darkness, God has started over with creation.
God closed the door on His perfect world and now Noah opens the door onto Man’s World. Now God alway adds to or multiplies. Look at the command God gave Adam and Eve and compare it to the Command God gave Noah.
Adam and Eve
“And God blessed them [granting them certain authority] and said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth, and subjugate it [putting it under your power]; and rule over (dominate) the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and every living thing that moves upon the earth.” So God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of the entire earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you; and to all the animals on the earth and to every bird of the air and to everything that moves on the ground—to everything in which there is the breath of life—I have given every green plant for food”; and it was so [because He commanded it].”
Genesis 1:28-30 AMP
Noah
“And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth. The fear and the terror of you shall be [instinctive] in every animal of the land and in every bird of the air; and together with everything that moves on the ground, and with all the fish of the sea; they are given into your hand. Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you; I give you everything, as I gave you the green plants and vegetables. But you shall not eat meat along with its life, that is, its blood.”
Genesis 9:1-4 AMP
Did you notice how God blessed both Adam and Eve, as well as Noah? God said to both be fruitful and multiply. Everything is identical until we get to the animals. In this new world MAN can eat the animals. What happens once a child is born? The child begins to have a new diet. He eats different food than he did when he was in the womb. It’s a whole new world with new rules.
If we skip ahead 10 more generations we have the story of the Tower of Babel another creation story. The whole world spoke one language. The people came together to build a name for themselves. They built a city with a tower that they said would keep them together and prevent them from being scattered. God saw this and said it was not a good thing the people were doing so He scattered them by giving them new languages. Remember God always add or multiplies. He multiplied the languages which caused the people to scatter and create new nations. What is the next stage of development of a child? It would be the use of language or learning to speak. Do you see the comparisons here of a child going through different stages of growth? Are we finally at a mature enough stage of growth and development that we are ready to have the King of the Universe come back and gather us to Himself?
The word of God is so deep and there is so much we have not even began to scratched the surface of all it’s mysteries. Have you ever heard the story of creation this way before? Please share your thoughts in the comments.
Next week’s Parashat we begin another creation story of a special nation set apart from all the other nations.
