He has always confounded the religious spirit and upset the applecart of the self-righteous. He has always been merciful, forgiving, gracious and compassionate to those who didn't deserve it as per human assessment. Everyone else had stones ready to throw but Jesus bent down and wrote on the ground as He said: "Let the person who is without sin throw the first stone." Not one person could throw the stones. Was He writing on the ground the list of secret sins of those who were ready to throw stones at the woman? Was He writing down every crime committed by the ones who screamed, “Stone her to death!”? Was He writing the edict of her freedom? Was He writing down the list of the woman's secret good deeds? Or was He writing down the list of all the men with stones who were the prostitute's secret night visitors? We don't know. What we do know is that every accuser dropped their stone and left. Jesus did not accuse her and rather pardoned her. He was the only one without sin and the only one qualified to hold the stone of judgment against her, yet He told her: "Woman, where are your accusers?" When she saw there were none and mentioned the same to Him, He said "Neither do I accuse you. Go and sin no more."
That's Jesus.
